Clinical Classification of Neurological Disorders Managed at Home
Neurological conditions differ fundamentally from standard musculoskeletal disorders; impairment originates within the command and control architecture of the central nervous system (brain and spinal cord) or the peripheral nerve network. Bidaya categorizes clinical presentations into two primary neuro-syndromes:
1. Upper Motor Neuron (UMN) Syndromes: Arising from ischemic or hemorrhagic strokes, traumatic brain injuries, cervical/thoracic spinal cord injuries, or Multiple Sclerosis. Characterized by velocity-dependent muscle spasticity, hyperreflexia, clonus, loss of selective motor control, and pathological mass movement synergies.
2. Lower Motor Neuron (LMN) & Peripheral Neuropathies: Arising from focal nerve entrapments (such as peroneal nerve palsy causing foot drop), Guillain-Barré syndrome, or diabetic motor neuropathies. Characterized by flaccid muscle paresis, rapid denervation atrophy, hyporeflexia, and sensory loss.
